Alright…back to Mr. Rodgers👇

Not everyone can be like Mr. Rodgers.

In dentistry, the opposite of Mr. Rodgers are implant restorations

so when you place that pretty new implant restoration, you expect it to go like this

But at least according to one cross-sectional study, most of the time it’s a lot like this:

Let me explain

Researchers at the University of Washington looked at a decent number of patients:

and from those patients, they looked at:

…of those grouchy, contact hating implants.

In those 61 patients

*those are open contacts

with the majority of the open contacts appearing at this site-

But all of this isn’t a big deal right?

Well the researchers also looked at prevalence of mucositis and implantitis in the open and closed contact groups…and turns out…

it IS a big deal.

🚨🚨Because significantly more cases of mucositis and implantitis were seen in the open contact implant group🚨🚨

which is probably something you should warn your patients about.

Now here’s a question…

Have you ever treated an open implant restoration contact?

...with a new implant restoration, direct restoration, etc...

(results to come in a future email)

but maybe we should think about treating open contacts more often👊👊.

Coffee Break

  • 🔪Kitchen Dentistry. A consenting adult paid $2k for 5 extractions (which is more than a lot of licensed dentists charge 🙃) in a very sketchy kitchen operatory.

  • 📷Up Your Photography Game. An awesome free E-book on dental photography and a STL file for 3D printable soft light boxes from the MOD institute

  • 🚶Walk to work? A study correlating driving dependence and lower life satisfaction

Looking Forward to Next Week
