Good morning ya bacteria hunters,

Thoughts and prayers to our dental colleagues impacted by the Los Angeles fires. Stay safe out there.

Today’s line-up

  • ☕Coffee Break. The cost to retire in each state and the story behind 11k extractions in 2024.

  • ☢️Looking to Next Week. For our premium subscribers, the literature behind carotid calcifications

Let’s say this guy represents our silver diamine fluoride

And instead of erasing memories or blasting aliens…

When this SDF is placed in the mouth, he walks right up to the bacteria…

And slaps him right in the face

Which kills the caries causing bacteria

Now, not all the slaps by the man in black hit the same.

In fact, it’s probably important to know for sure you are using the right concentration of SDF in your practice:

Hint: A bit of trick question

But let’s say you are using the correct concentration

You’re going to be hitting those bacteria with something called the zombie effect

So the bacteria might mourn over their slapped friend for a second

But instead of burying him…they put him right on the BBQ.

And they eat him. WTF!

Don’t worry though, these “friends” eventually get what’s coming to them.

Because by eating their dead friend, they die too.

And the number of caries causing bacteria decreases in the mouth.

So really this should be called the cannibal effect? 😆
